← Site Metadata

2 plugins share one ID

Their ID: site-metadata@barish.me

Why does this happen?

Every Zotero plugin carries an ID, a name tag Zotero uses to tell plugins apart. Zotero plugins are open source, so anyone can copy one, change it and publish their own version. Each plugin has an ID that's meant to be unique, but when people copy a plugin they often keep its ID. That's what happened here: Site Metadata was copied.

What it means for you

  • You can only have one of these installed at a time.
  • Installing one replaces whichever of them you already have.
  • Many share a name, so check which one a file comes from before you install it.

"Copy" means a plugin with the same ID whose name or repository name matches the most used one; "Fork" means a GitHub fork of it. We don't know what each copy changed; its own page says what its code does.
